Put a Little Greece Under the Tree: Christmas Gift Ideas

Reading Time: 6 minutes

Hello my beautiful Greek-at-heart souls!
Christmas is just around the corner. Besides the festivities, the overeating, and they “why did I drink that much yesterday?” moments -which we’ll ignore for now – what else do we do? We exchange gifts of course! If you’re looking for unique Christmas gift ideas, I have an intriguing little proposition.

How about slipping a spark of Greece into your gifts this year?

A Greek-themed gift always feels a bit more meaningful. Maybe it’s the history wrapped into every symbol, maybe it’s the warmth of Greek homes during the holidays? Whatever it is, these little touches tend to feel personal rather than generic.

I put together a list of Greek-inspired presents that shout Greece in the best possible way and they would even make me happy to receive… although I’m Greek. Are you excited? Because I definitely am!

Let’s see my list!

Greek Christmas Gift Ideas

1. The Evil-eye Ornament

How Greek would I be if I didn’t start with the evil eye? Am I superstitious? No, I just call my mum “να με ξεματιάσει” (na me xematiasi) everytime I don’t feel well and I’ve lost count of how many pieces of jewerly I have with the evil eye on them ONLY because they are cute.

So, I found this super cute Christmas ornament with the evil eye. You can hang it on the tree or use it as home decor. Its vibrant color catches the eye (no pun intended) and it’s a special and very unique gift.

You can find it here:

It’s a set of 12 super cute evil eyes with 12 gift cards and 12 organza bags. They are perfect if you have a big presents list or you can use them as part of a gift.

In Greece, if someone gives you the evil eye, it means they care for you and want you to be well. It’s not just a gift. It symbolizes thoughtfulness and affection.

2. Christmas Gift Ideas with a Greek Twist: T-shirts

Who doesn’t need a t-shirt? No really. No matter how many you have, one more is always welcome. Especially if it combines Christmas with a bit of Greece. These T-shirts are perfect Christmas gift ideas for friends or family.

I’ve picked 3 of my favourites. One is warm and the others are more playfull.

The Καλά Χριστούγεννα t-shirt

It’s so simple but so warm at the same time. A Christmas tree and and the wish “Καλά Χριστούγεννα” written above. It comes in 20 different colors and it is perfect for men, women and youth. The best part? You can wash it in the laundry and it has sustainability features, meaning that it is made with chemicals safer for human health and the environment.

The Greek Elf t-sirt

This one is playful and perfect for “naughty’ people. It’s not jus a t-shirt. It’s a statement. It comes in 5 different colors and it’s suitable for men and women. And no worries about how to wash it. Just throught it in the laundry.

The All I Want For Christmas Is Greek Food t-shirt

Oh, boy, this one spoke straight to my heart. It is exactly what I want for Christmas. Greek food! Although I’m on diet… but that’s another story. This t-shirt comes in 10 differnt colors, for men, women and youth and yes, of course it’s machine washable.

3. Aprons with a Greek Flavour

Here’s my personal story with aprons. Do I have aprons? Yes. Do I wear them while I’m cooking? No. Have I ever thought of giving them away? No. Do I need more? Yes! Aprons are statements. Yes, yes they are practical when you’re cooking I guess, but mostly are statements. An apron with a nice picture always makes me happy and what’s better than one with a touch of Greece? These make perfect Christmas gift ideas.

4. Necklaces with Goddesses from Greek Mythology

Greek mythology still stands strong today. Who doesn’t know the Greek Gods? These silver necklaces are amazing gifts and remember, each Goddess stands for something and gifting one can feel surprisingly personal.

Greek Goddess Artemis Necklace

Artemis is the Goddess of hunting but also the moon. She symbolizes the independence, the intuition and the wild spirit.

Greek Goddess Aphrodite Necklace

The Goddess of beauty, love and charm. A gentle, romantic choice.

Greek Goddess Themis Necklace

The Goddess of justice and one of the titans in Greek mythology. Always blindfolded, symbolizing objectivity and fairness.

5. Greek Christmas Gift Ideas: Santa Figurine

Santa Claus in Greece is Άγιος Βασίλης. He “visits” houses in New Year’s Eve, not Christmas, leaving presents for all the kids.

You can find him in every Greek house as part of the Christmas decoration. On Christmas trees, next to them, on fireplaces, balconys, yards. Άγιος Βασίλης is everywhere. So a figurine of the Greek Santa is the perfect gift!

This figurine is the creation of award-winning artist, Jim Shore. He has done a wonderful job combining the Greek Santa with a quaint Santorini scene. It is detailed, elegant and feels like a collectible. And we support artists afterall!

6. Archangel Michael Christmas Ornaments

I couldn’t leave Archangel Michael out of this list. I’ll tell you a secret. You know how Greeks celebrate their namedays, right?. And a lot of Greeks consider their nameday more important than their birthday. But apart from the saint they were named after, many Greeks feel a special connection with another saint. Mine is Archangel Michael. That’s why he couldn’t be missing out of this list. Archagel Michael symbolizes absolute power and protection so gifting an ornament of him is both meaningful and traditional.

These ornaments can be placed on Christmas trees for a unique touch or anywhere in the house as part of the Christmas decor.

7. Greek Christmas Wrapping

My mum always said that the wrap is half the present. And honestly…she is right. A nice wrap gives extra value to the present itself. So what’s better than wrapping your gift in Greek inspired paper?
